We evaluate the OTDR traces with the software FiberDoc. Once a single fiber is analyzed, FiberDoc makes it very easy to analyze hundreds of traces with this same structure. This provides very fast significant results of OTDR-traces, like total link attenuation, splice loss, connector loss, attenuation coefficient, etc. You can print results also as a text file for further processing in e.g. MS-Excel. From FiberDoc it’s possible to print the OTDR-traces individually with their event table or as multiple plots with many traces or clearly with the traces from both directions on one page or even traces form both directions but mirrored. Your company logo can be integrated as well. This software FiberDoc is simply brilliant for the documentation of OTDR traces.
We use a special macro, which makes possible to bring all the individual splice results very clearly in MS Excel format. This list brings an overview of splice values from both directions, the average values and at the different wavelengths as well. From the difference of the average splice values at different wavelength it’s easy to recognize if there is any micro bending or not.
Another macro merges the total link loss from the OTDR-traces with the readings from the power meter and we get an overview / comparison between the OTDR measurement and ILM (insertion loss measurement) with the power meter. The documentation of the PMD and CD measurements will be done with the EXFO software Fast-Reporter. This documentation will show the traces and the readings as a PDF-file.
Of course we will also respond to customer requirements and discuss the documentation with the customer.
